Overnight outdoors - 10-11 April 2026

In collaboration with experienced leaders from the University Chaplaincy and Student Health Services at Uppsala University, we invite you to spend the night outdoors in a hammock. This is a perfect opportunity for you who want to try it for the first time, or if you have done it before and want some company.

Together with university chaplain Karin Borg, who has many years of experience sleeping outdoors throughout the year, and Jens Lindquist, coordinator for student sports at Student Health Services at Uppsala University, you now have the opportunity to join us in the forest for a magical night in a hammock. We leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind for a night in the forest.

You will be driven to a nearby forest area where we will set up camp, start a fire and rig the hammocks for the night. In the morning, we will prepare breakfast over the fire, pack up and return home by lunchtime at the latest.

You can borrow a hammock and tarp (tent fabric) and some more stuf, but you will need to provide the rest of the equipment yourself, as listed below. If you don't have your own equipment or can't borrow it from a friend, you can probably find most of what you need at Fritidsbanken.

Time: 16:30 p.m. until no later than 12:00 p.m. on 10-11 April

Location: Meet outside Campus1477 for joint departure (Karin and Jens have a car each)

Level: You do not need to have spent the night outdoors before, but it is good if you have some experience of being out in the woods and countryside.

Bear in mind that ticks may have become active at this time of year, so it may be a good idea to get vaccinated against TBE. However, this is not a requirement for participation, only a recommendation.

Registration: by 7 April or until places are filled using this form

Maximum number of participants: 6

Equipment you get to borrow:

  • Hammock (with tarp/tent roof)
  • Headlamp
  • An extra sleeping mat (but you also need your own to insulate against the cold)
  • Seating mat
  • Barbecue skewers
  • Rain poncho

Equipment you need to fix and bring yourself:

  • Suitible rucksack for 50-70 litre
  • Sleeping bag (rated for at least 0 degrees, preferably lower temperatures)
  • Sleeping mat (preferably a thick one)
  • Wool or synthetic base layer for sleeping (avoid cotton)
  • Thick socks (preferably wool) + an extra pair (dry) for the night
  • Mid-layer in fleece or wool for both upper and lower body
  • (Shell) jacket/-trousers that can withstand rain
  • Thermal trousers if you have them for extra warmth
  • Hiking trousers
  • Warm jacket, preferably with down or synthetic filling (it gets cold in the evening)
  • Rainwear in case of rain

  • Mobile phone
  • Power bank
  • Water bottle for approx. 1.5 litres
  • Thermos flask with hot water
