Experience the magical atmosphere that the festival creates while discovering Uppsala in a new way. With a headlamp on your head and a reflective vest, you light up not only the road for yourself, but also form a temporary part of the Uppsala Light Festival. Both headlamp and reflective vest are included in the registration fee.
The race is perfect for both beginners and experienced runners who want to enjoy a relaxed run through a unique environment that literally lights up in the autumn darkness,
It's not a hard run, it's a light run!
Date: Friday 15 November
Preperation before: To both enhance your experience during the race and for you to know where you are, we recommend that you look up the digital map of the location of the light artworks on Uppsala Light Festival's website. An interactive map and the light works will also be available in the "Uppsala konst och kulturarv"-app, which shows where the works are and follows your own position in real time. There you can also read more about the various works. Download the app on Google Play or the App Store. Don't forget to activate your notifications to know when you are near a light structure and to find your way more easily.
Training: If you want to try running with a headlamp at a leisurely pace before or after the race, you are welcome to join one of the Headlamp Trail sessions that we offer at Camus1477 on Wednesdays at 5pm
Gathering: Between 17.00 and 17.45 you can come to Forumtorget to "check in" and get your headlamp and reflective vest. Please come in well in time before your start
Covering clothes and bags: NOTE! We do not have a bag drop at start/finish. Come as you are or bring friends who can take care of your outerwear/bags while you run.
Warm-up: Joint warm-up before each starting group a few minutes before the start.
Start: 18.00-18.30 in groups with 50 in each group every 5 minutes. You will find out your starting group well in advance of the race.
Maximum time: You run at your own pace and stop and experience the light artworks, but need to keep a pace around the course so that you finish at the latest by 20:00
Location: Start and finish at Forumtorget, central Uppsala
Course length: approx. 5 km (see coursmap further down)
Course markings: The course is marked with both reflective markings (which you can see with your headlamp) and regular red-white markings, as well as signs with arrows at certain crossroads.
Traffic: At road crossings, officials in yellow reflective vests will stand and show the way. Normal traffic rules apply and you as a "pedestrian" do have priority at pedestrian crossings, but of course you must also pay attention to other road users. Take it carefully! No timing = No closed roads = No stress!
Safety: At the start and finish at Forumtorget, there is simpler healthcare equipment, the nearest defibrillator is in Forumgalleria and at Max restaurant. Volunteers are located along the course to help with road crossings and incidents. As a participant, we recommend that you download the 112 app in your mobile phone that you take with you during the event.
Sustainability: The theme for this year's edition of Uppsal Light Festival is "You are the difference". The light installations and their individual messages want to make you reflect on what an important role you have in the transition to a more sustainable future. As an event, the Uppsala Light Run also wants to contribute to sustainability, both environmentally, socially and financially. That's why we focus on the social, physical and cultural experience without timing and result anxiety at as low registration fee as possible. We also ask you as a participant to be considerate and not litter along the road.
Food and drink: Coffee and hot chocolate will be served along the course in connection with one of the light artworks, and after the race at the finish area you will be offered snacks and drinks by Atrium Ljungberg in collaboration with restaurant Egon and drinks by Gowell
Result: Your own experience. We have no timing. You decide for yourself what pace you want to run around and pass the light artworks to get to the goal.
